Celebrating Red Nose Day
Walking around town with a big ol’ red nose will probably feel silly, but it’s pretty likely the people who see you will know exactly what you’re supporting. Children have a HUGE place in my heart. Helping kids has been a passion of mine since as long as I can remember.
Red Nose Day is getting bigger and bigger each year. Emmy Award-winning writer/director Richard Curtis launched the campaign in 1988 in the UK. He saw the power of bringing entertainment, celebrities, and the nation together to make a difference in children’s lives. It has raised over 1-BILLION dollars... so far.
This year, NBC is back showing their support by dedicating their Thursday, May 24th primetime TV slots to The Red Nose Day Special. The special programming will help raise money for the organization. Last year, NBC raised over 40-million dollars.
This year, all your favorite celebrities like Kelly Clarkson, Justin Hartley, and Jane Lynch are a part of NBC’s big day. ‘Talking Dead’ host Chris Hardwick will host the television special.
Celebrities and people from all walks of life are getting together to sport a big red nose to show their support for children. It’s silly, it’s cute, it’s a heck of a cause. Walgreens is the place to go to get your glittery red nose (it’s like they really know me), Red Nose Day pin, rubber bracelets, and pens. The noses are only $1. Half of the amount goes to the charity, and the other half goes into making the nose. Walgreens stands firm stating they don’t make a single dime off any Red Nose Day merchandise. They’re actually the only store you can purchase the items from.
When I first heard about Red Nose Day, I thought it was a brilliant concept. Embracing what children are all about… life, laughter, and innocence. The red nose symbolizes all of that and breaks down barriers. What better way to get a chuckle than with a big red nose? This year, they added the silver glitter to embrace the celebration of children’s lives. Cover half my face with a glittery red ball that helps a child in need? Count me in!
The fundraising helps children in need from all over the world, and right in our backyard. The money helps pay for vaccines, water, medicine, food, and education for some of the neediest communities across the globe. Red Nose Day partners with other organizations like Boys & Girls Clubs of America, Children’s Health Fund, Feeding America, Save the Children, The Global Fund and so many others.
Spice Girl turned fashion icon Victoria Beckham showed her support for Red Nose Day by creating a special Spice Girl’s Red Nose Day USA T-shirt with the ladies wearing the red nose. I’ll take 7 of those, thanks!
“I’ve seen firsthand how Red Nose Day USA has touched the lives of millions of children—it’s been a true inspiration for me. I was honored to design this shirt and promote the message of Girl Power to young women and children around the world. Every t-shirt sold helps this incredible cause continue to ensure all children receive the love, care and support they need.” –Victoria Beckham
Donate, donate, donate. You will never look back and regret it… plus, you’ll have something SUPER cute to show for it!
