Hi.

Welcome to my blog.

New Year, New Me

New Year, New Me

Happy New Year!  2019 was pretty great, but I am SO ready for 2020… it even sounds amazing.  For the last few years, I have made resolutions on New Year’s Eve. Surprisingly, I have kept most of them (working out from January until July counts).

This year, I wanted to set a resolution that wasn’t just about me.  That’s why I want to follow in the footsteps of my favorite actor of all time, Leo DiCaprio, and do my part in saving our planet.  I don’t have Leo’s resources or platform, but every little bit helps.

If you’ve read my previous posts throughout the year, you know I love jewelry that means something.  I came across Bead the Change and was instantly hooked. Each colored beaded bracelet holds a different meaning… I had to get my hands on all 5.

The cobalt blue Water Relief Bracelet supports Drop in the Bucket, an organization building wells with clean and healthy drinking water in schools across Africa.  These kids wouldn’t have access to clean water otherwise. Forget staying local, the environment is global.

The transparent green bracelet is for Reforestation.  Ten percent of purchases are donated to One Tree Planted, who help plant trees across the globe to fight deforestation.

In 2019, deforestation was a huge problem, hitting an all-time high in over a decade.  Many people don’t realize the huge effect this has on our climate and environment.

Also in 2019, poaching is still a thing.  I have little elephant statues all over my house.  They are known to bring good luck and frankly, I believe in it.  Elephants are known to be one of the most intelligent and compassionate animals, so when I hear about poachers killing them for their ivory, it is extremely disturbing.  Unfortunately, sweet elephants aren’t the only animals dying in the hands of monsters, rhinos are also killed for their horn.

Bead the Change is doing their part to stop the murders of these sweet animals, because if it continues, these animals will be extinct sooner than people realize.  The Protect the Elephants and Rhinos Bracelet is a beautiful transparent red and supports NRDC, an organization working to stop the poaching of these animals and help end the ivory trade.

The yellow Climate Change Bracelet is donating 10% of each purchase to the Carbon Fund to help reduce our carbon footprint.  Climate change isn’t going away… it is real, y’all. We can actually see the weather’s extreme shifts and rising sea levels, but what are we doing about it?  Carbon Fund works to reduce the carbon dioxide directly causing climate change.

Finally, the turquoise Ocean Cleanup Bracelet is one of my favorites.  I’ve been taught about keeping our oceans clean since I can remember, but it seems like not everyone was paying attention.  Oceans mean so much more than a day at the beach. They are the home to so many different types of sea life, but there are over 5 trillion pieces of plastic littering the oceans and threatening lives.  Bead the Change is donating to The Ocean Cleanup, an organization helping save the ocean through the removal of the Great Pacific Garbage Patch, a vortex-type area in the ocean accumulating the world’s largest collection of floating trash.  Yikes.

Bead the Change bracelets aren’t your typical plastic beads, these babies are made with glass!  Each bead is created using recycled glass bottles and are hand-crafted in Ghana. The cord is made out of recycled plastic water bottles, but are still soft and adjustable.  The bracelets also provide protection and spiritual well-being.

“When you wear a Bead the Change charity bracelet, you share your passion for a better world while directly supporting the causes you care about most.  Every bead counts.”
